Large Taste of Iceland wall mural - white text on black bricks

Big Impact, One Wall: Murals as Advertising

Why brands are taking their campaigns to the street

In a busy city, traditional advertising can be easy to overlook. A well-placed mural is different. It becomes part of its surroundings while still being large enough to catch the attention of people passing by.

We recently produced the stencils for this Taste of Iceland campaign, installed by Creative Return  in association with The London Mural Company.

Creative Return has been curating and delivering creative commissions and installations for more than a decade. The London Mural Company was established in 2015 and creates contemporary artwork for interior and exterior spaces, working with clients, councils and artists on projects of different sizes and across a wide range of surfaces.

The simple white lettering was painted across a large black brick wall, creating a clear message that can be seen from across the surrounding area. Bold, uncluttered and difficult to miss, it shows that successful mural advertising doesn’t always require complicated artwork.

Advertising People Want to Photograph

One of the main advantages of mural advertising is that its reach can extend beyond the physical location. An eye-catching wall can be photographed, shared on social media and used as a backdrop for further campaign content.

Unlike a printed poster, a painted mural also retains the texture and character of the surface beneath it. Here, the brickwork remains visible through the lettering, helping the finished piece feel connected to its location rather than simply placed over it.

Advertising murals can be used for:

  • Product and brand launches
  • Festivals and cultural events
  • Film and television promotions
  • Retail and hospitality campaigns
  • Temporary event branding
  • Public awareness campaigns
  • The location, scale and creative treatment can all be adapted to suit the audience and message.

Turning Space into Part of the Campaign

Murals make use of spaces that might otherwise go unnoticed. Blank walls, building façades, railway arches, temporary structures and event spaces can all become part of a wider marketing campaign.

They can be colourful and highly detailed or, as this project demonstrates, built around a simple message. What matters is that the design suits the location and can be understood quickly.

When the setting, artwork and brand message work together, a wall becomes more than an advertisement. It becomes a landmark, a talking point and something people are more likely to remember.

For this project, we produced the large-format stencils used to transfer the Taste of Iceland design accurately onto the brickwork. The installation was then completed by Creative Return.

At Laser Cutting Services, we produce custom stencils for murals, street advertising and large-scale brand installations. Designs can be divided into manageable, clearly labelled sections, helping installation teams reproduce artwork accurately across walls, floors and other large surfaces.
