Frequently Asked Questions

What is laser cutting?

Laser cutting is an accurate cutting method that uses a laser beam to cut materials.

We use CO2 laser technology at Laser Cutting Services. A series of lenses and mirrors are precisely aligned to form a fine beam that cuts by melting through most non-metallic materials. The width of the beam/kerf has a tolerance of 1mm (amount of material taken away when cut).

Can paper and card be laser cut?

With laser cutting technology, we can laser cut and raster engrave fine detailed artwork and illustrations, many of which become finished framed artwork for prizes, gifts and presentations. Our design team can quickly interpret your designs whether for promotion display or a product.

Paper and card cutting is also used as an effective form of visual merchandising decoration for shop window displays. With such a wide range of paper and card colours finishes, there is no end to the creative ideas and effects that can be explored: If you require black/white or some metallic/colours we usually have stock. Other colours please discuss your requirements with us.

We also laser cut greetings cards, corporate invitations, promotional leaflets and presentation booklets for trade shows and exhibitions and we work on laser cutting projects with companies in the media, theatre and publishing industry.

What fabrics can be laser cut?

Laser cutting has become a very popular form of production as part of the manufacturing process for the fashion, millinery and accessories industries, in particular during London Fashion Week, creating some very unique ranges of clothing garments and accessories. This very accurate and successful method of cutting a variety of fabrics allows fine cut detail to be achieved creating exquisite and stunning results.

Unusual textiles and fabrics which can be laser cut range from latex, rubber, leather (hide and faux) to highly decorative synthetic fabrics. We can also cut cotton, silk, linen and polyester. We will consider any fabric or textile as we perform sample test cuts prior to all cutting jobs.

With even the smallest amount of synthetic fibres mixed with natural fibres, the finished edge is clean cut that will seal the fabric and prevent fraying.

Our custom made fabric roll feed system enables lasercutting of repeat designs.
