Multi Layer Stencils Step by Step Stencil Instructions by Laser Cutting Services

MULTI LAYER STENCILS
Multi layer custom cut stencils can be used by artists and interior designers or in industry or commercial applications. We can achieve the multi layer look by providing you with registration marks on each sheet.
  • Prepare – Make sure area/ item you are stencilling is clean and dry.
  • Check positioning – Check positioning of first layer. You will find it helpful to lightly mark a lines or dots to determine vertical and horizontal axis of entire design.
  • Apply stencil – You can use masking tape or lightly spray the reverse of stencil with spray adhesive, depending on base material stencil has to adhere to.
  • Spray colour – Spray lightly. Keeping airbrush 3 – 4” from stencil. Apply subsequent light coats building up to desired colour intensity. (If using paint and a stencil “dabbing” brush, check paint tin for instructions on paint thickness, coverage.) Allow to dry.
  • Align registration marks – You can repeat above two steps for each multiple colour or design layer by aligning registration marks for each colour. The registration marks we provide will often be circles, the quantity and position of these is determined by what we deem necessary for your individual design and will be unobtrusive. You need to line up these marks for each subsequent colour; Tape or spray stencil to the stencil underneath and/ or base application area for each and every subsequent colour/ shade.
  • Peel off – Once dry and you have completed all your design layers, peel off the stencils.
  • Clean stencil – Stencil can be cleaned in alcohol or appropriate solvent for your paint (check tin).
